Danton and I snacked on these tasty lemon shortbread cookies at the Volunteer Park Conservatory Christmas celebration last week and attempted to recreate them on Friday.  I don’t think our rendition (based on this recipe) quite lived up in flavor to the ones from the park (or perhaps those weren’t shortbread cookies after all…lemon sugar cookies or lemon butter cookies maybe?), but being another eggless cookie batter it was a very toddler-friendly process.

We shaped ours into stars for a festive touch.  Danton started singing “twinkle twinkle little star” after we cut out each one from the batter.  At first, we didn’t know what to do with all these lemony shortbread stars, but a “giving” opportunity arose later that evening when we went to view a community-organized live nativity Christmas performance and added them to the mix of complimentary post-show refreshments.
